About Us
I was born in the Price, Utah and moved around to a few small towns in the Rocky Mountains. My family settled down in Bountiful, which I consider my "hometown". I graduated from high school
there, and went off to Provo, Utah to attend Brigham Young University
on a track and field
scholarship.
I started out in computer science, but decided that I was much more interested in biology and graduated with a b.s. in biology composite (biology, physics, chemistry) with a secondary teaching certificate. As a mid-college siesta I served a two year mission to the Philippines on the island of Mindanao. On return, I qualified as an Olympic Hopeful for the 1992 Barcelona Olympics in the pole vault.
I married Tori (my college sweetheart) soon after she graduated. We finished up school and found employment in Gilchrist, Oregon as a secondary teacher and track and field coach. We soon moved to my wife's home state in 1997 where I taught computers at Delta Junction, Alaska and it was there I regained my interest in computers. In 2000 we moved to Barrow where I was an instructional technologist, a curriculum technologist, and a technology director for the North Slope Borough School District.
While in Barrow, we built a log home in my wife's home town - Salcha, Alaska. We also managed to have three kids, start a new business (Exam Professor), and survive the largest 1 to 1 student laptop initiative in the state. In 2007, we gave up the arctic bush and moved south into our finished home where I am now an instructional technologist, and my wife teaches K-1st grade at Salcha Elementary, a mere 7 miles down the road.
I spend a lot of late night programming in Cold Fusion, Action Script, CSS, and XHTML. I'm very excited about the future of the web and how to leverage it as a development platform. I'm into Web 2.0 and how Rich Internet Applications fit into that space and enhance education.
